HYSTERA
[DR ALICJA PAWLUCZUK]

New book out now: endo violence: [co]mapping endometriosis related injustice by Alicja Pawluczuk / HYSTERA & Endo Violence Community (2025) edited by Allison Rich.

Dr Alicja Pawluczuk (HYSTERA) is a disabled artist, writer, and researcher whose interdisciplinary practice bridges art, activism, and feminist inquiry into care, pain, and digital injustice. Since 2010, she has worked across community and participatory arts, developing socially engaged projects that connect creative experimentation with critical research.

Born in Poland she emigrated to Scotland at the age of 20, where after she earned her PhD in Digital Culture in 2019. A peripherally white migrant, she situates her practice at the intersections of identity, embodiment, and inequity. Since 2020, her work has become increasingly self-focused and research-led, exploring her experiences of being crip, neurodivergent, and migrant through large-scale mixed-media installations, process-based experiments, and more traditional visual forms. Her art is grounded in ongoing scholarly research on neuroqueering, gender digital divides, and gender equity. Through this lens, she interrogates the politics of visibility, systemic neglect, and the digital and material conditions of care.

Her work has been presented internationally, including at La Maison de France (Berlin, 2025), Galerie BAG (Bordeaux, 2024), and Berlin Art Week (2023). Alicja is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, founder of Digital Beez, and co-founder of the Endo Violence Collective and Magazyn. Her recent publications include endo violence: [co]mapping endometriosis-related injustice (2025) and essays in It’s Nice That, An Injustice!, and Hysterical Women.
